Travel Morocco with a route that makes sense

Morocco brings together Atlantic and Mediterranean coastlines, the Atlas Mountains, desert landscapes, historic medinas and centuries of cultural exchange. The country’s official tourism office highlights this contrast between mountains, sea, desert and a history stretching back two millennia.

From Marrakech and the High Atlas to the Sahara and the Atlantic, we build private journeys around the places you actually want to understand — not simply the places that look good on a checklist. Our journey pages explain routes, seasons, walking demands, practical details and what is included so you can decide with confidence.

Why travelers choose our private Morocco tours

Private by Design

Every journey is yours alone — your own guide, your own driver, your own pace. No groups, no strangers, no rigid schedules.

Real Local Knowledge

We know these mountains, villages, and roads because they are ours. We design routes from experience, not from a template.

Honest Travel Advice

We tell you what is difficult, what takes time, and what may not work. Honesty is not a marketing strategy — it is how we work.

Tailor-Made Routes

No two journeys are the same. We design each route around your interests, fitness, dates, and travel companions.

Direct Human Support

You speak to a person who knows Morocco, not a call center. Before, during, and after your journey.

Details That Matter

The right guide for your fitness. The right camp for your comfort. The right pace for your group. It is in the details.

Start with the kind of Morocco you actually want to experience

Use the catalogue as a starting point: mountain trekking, Sahara landscapes or Atlantic coast. Each route can then be discussed and tailored to the people travelling.

Morocco Unique Journeys: Private Tours, Atlas Mountains & Sahara Desert Adventures

Morocco Unique Journeys is a locally owned travel company based in Morocco. We create private and small-group Morocco tours across the country, combining the places first-time visitors want to see with the mountain villages, landscapes and local experiences that are easier to discover with people who know the country well. From the snow-dusted peaks of the High Atlas to the golden dunes of the Sahara Desert around Merzouga, we build each journey around your dates, pace, interests and preferred level of comfort.

Our approach is deliberately personal. Instead of sending every traveler through the same fixed itinerary, we can shape a private Morocco tour around trekking, desert travel, culture, food, photography, family travel, honeymoon travel or a balanced combination of several experiences. You can start in Marrakech, travel through the High Atlas and Aït Ben Haddou, continue toward the Dades Valley and Merzouga, then finish in Fes, Chefchaouen or on the Atlantic coast.

Why Morocco is such a rewarding destination in 2026

Morocco packs remarkable variety into one country. A two-week trip can combine historic medinas, mountain valleys, desert landscapes and the Atlantic coast without requiring a flight between every stop. That variety is one of the biggest reasons Morocco works so well for tailor-made travel.

The four imperial cities — Marrakech, Fes, Meknes and Rabat — offer different perspectives on Moroccan history and architecture. Marrakech is famous for its ochre walls, souks and Jemaa el-Fna; Fes is known for its historic medina and traditional craftsmanship; Meknes and nearby Volubilis add another layer of history; and Rabat combines royal heritage with a calmer Atlantic setting.

Morocco is also exceptionally diverse geographically. The High Atlas offers hiking, village walks and Mount Toubkal, while the Sahara near Merzouga provides camel excursions, desert sunsets and overnight camps. Further south, the Dades and Todra valleys connect dramatic scenery with kasbahs and mountain communities, while Essaouira and other Atlantic destinations add beaches, seafood, wind and a slower coastal rhythm.

The Morocco experiences travelers come for

Marrakech and the imperial cities: explore medinas, palaces, gardens, artisan workshops and traditional food. Marrakech is an ideal starting point for travelers who want to combine culture with the mountains.

Atlas Mountains and Amazigh villages: hike around Imlil, Ourika or Azzaden, meet local communities and experience terraced valleys, walnut groves and high mountain trails. Imlil is the principal gateway for many Toubkal treks.

Sahara Desert and Merzouga: cross the Tizi n'Tichka area, visit Aït Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate, travel through the Dades Valley and reach Erg Chebbi for a camel ride, sunset and a night in a desert camp.

Chefchaouen and the north: slow down in the Rif Mountains, walk the blue medina and combine the town with Fes, Tangier or other northern destinations.

Is Morocco good for trekking and adventure?

Yes. The Atlas Mountains offer everything from easy valley walks to demanding multi-day treks. Around Imlil, you can choose a gentle half-day hike through Amazigh villages, a moderate multi-day route through the High Atlas, or a challenging Mount Toubkal ascent to 4,167 m. More experienced hikers can go farther into the Azzaden Valley, M'Goun, Saghro and other less-visited mountain areas.

Trekking conditions depend on altitude, season and route. Spring and autumn are particularly attractive for many lower and mid-altitude treks, while summer can be excellent at higher elevations. Winter changes the character of high routes, with snow and ice possible and additional mountain skills and equipment sometimes required. Every itinerary should be matched to the group's fitness, experience and current conditions rather than chosen from a generic difficulty label.

Is Morocco safe for tourists?

Morocco is an established international tourism destination, but responsible travel still matters. We recommend normal precautions, respecting local customs, keeping valuables secure and following your guide's advice in remote mountain and desert areas.

For private journeys, our team can coordinate your driver, local guides, accommodations and day-to-day support so you are not left to solve every logistical detail alone. In the mountains, route choice and weather matter as much as fitness; in the desert, heat, distance and transfer times need to be planned properly.

Private Morocco tours designed around you

With Morocco Unique Journeys, you can travel privately at your own pace, stop for photographs, adjust the rhythm of a day and combine destinations that make sense for your trip. We focus on local knowledge, clear planning and human support rather than forcing every traveler into the same fixed departure.

Whether you want a short Sahara tour from Marrakech, a week-long Morocco itinerary, a longer Grand Morocco journey, a family holiday, a honeymoon or a two-week trip combining Atlas trekking with coastal relaxation, we can build the route around what you actually want to experience.

Plan your Morocco Unique Journey

Tell us your travel dates, number of travelers, preferred pace and the places or experiences you care about most. We can then shape a private Morocco itinerary that balances travel time with meaningful time on the ground — whether that means Marrakech and the Atlas Mountains, a Sahara Desert adventure to Merzouga, the imperial cities, Chefchaouen, Essaouira or a longer route across Morocco.

High Atlas Mountains trekking from Imlil to Toubkal

From Imlil, the trail climbs through walnut groves and Amazigh villages before opening into the high valleys beneath Toubkal. This is where we work, where we know the guides, the families, the routes, and the weather.

The High Atlas is not a backdrop. It is a living mountain range with real communities, real trails, and real conditions. We know the difference between a route that looks good on a map and one that is actually right for you.

Merzouga and Erg Chebbi: choose your Sahara experience

Most travelers think of "the Sahara" as a single place. It is not. Merzouga and Erg Chebbi are the most accessible dunes — reachable by road, with a range of camps. M'Hamid and Erg Chigaga are remote, wild, and reached only by 4x4 across open desert.

We know both. We help you choose the right one for your journey — not the one that is easiest to sell.

Merzouga / Erg Chebbi

Accessible

Dunes up to 150 m. Paved road access. Range of camps. 2-day drive from Marrakech.

M'Hamid / Erg Chigaga

Remote

Dunes up to 300 m. 2-hour off-road drive. Basic camps. The wilder Sahara.

Question 1 of 4

How many days do you have?

Morocco travel questions: tours, trekking, Sahara & planning

Spring (March–May) and autumn (September–November) are the best times for most of Morocco. Summer is too hot for the desert and the south, though the coast is pleasant. Winter is cold in the mountains but pleasant in the cities. Read our full guide on the best time to visit Morocco for more detail.

Morocco is one of the safest countries in North Africa for travelers. Violent crime is rare. The main risks are pickpocketing in crowded medinas and traffic. Your guide will help you navigate both. In the mountains and desert, the main risks are weather and altitude — which is why we use qualified guides and do not skip acclimatisation.

It depends on your journey. For city tours: comfortable walking shoes, layers, sun protection, and modest clothing. For trekking: sturdy boots, warm layers, a sleeping bag liner, and a headlamp. For the desert: warm layers for nights, sun protection, a scarf, and closed shoes. We provide a detailed packing list for each journey.

Yes. Every journey we offer can be customized — duration, destinations, accommodation level, activities, and pace. The journeys on our website are starting points, not fixed packages.

You tell us what you want — dates, interests, fitness level, travel companions, and any preferences. We design a route, send you a proposal, and refine the details together until it is right. There is no booking form that auto-generates a trip. Every journey is designed by a person who knows Morocco.

For peak season (March–May and September–November), we recommend 2–3 months in advance. For other times, 4–6 weeks is usually sufficient. For last-minute inquiries, we will do our best — but guides and accommodation may be limited.
